An incredible weekend of cricket from the Willetton boys saw all eight teams that competed across the weekend bring home victories, from the first-grade side playing away at Hillcrest Reserve all the way to the Under 13s side who took on Perth at Hola Park.
The first-grade side easily chased down the remaining 237 runs of their 254 required against the Bayswater-Morley bears, only losing three wickets along the way.
The run chase was kickstarted by a strong start to the day with a score of 1/121 at lunch, with Brock Larance dismissed for 47.
Captain Iszak Milentis and D’Arcy Short put on a crucial 114-run stand to all but ice the game. Milentis fell for 69 but it was Short who stole the show with an unbeaten 107, bringing up the century with a six.
The second-grade team fought hard to defend their 294, bowling the Bears out for 256. The game was in the balance all day, but, with a 100-run 6th wicket partnership being broken by Lukas Debnam, it opened the door for young gun off-spinner Jagan Singh to run through the tail and finish with impressive figures of 5/55 from a whopping 22.3 overs.
The third-grade side also had to fight hard for their victory taking the game to the 79th over as they bowled the Bears out for 200 as they defended their score of 238.
Keifer Lake took the crucial wicket of the Bayswater opener, who had made 93 of 140 at the time, leaving the score at 6/140 and allowing young leg-spinner Micah Akkinapalli to take the final three wickets of the game.
While the fourth-grade side continued from their dream day one of cricket to bowl the Bears out for 118 thanks to Sam Julyan’s 4/5 from 3.1 overs.
The dragons took an aggressive approach and enforced the follow-on, sending the Bears out to bat again until the captains shook hands at 4/73, handing the Dragons a comprehensive 163-run victory.
The Dragons’ first and third-grade teams will face South Perth back home at Hola Park in Willetton this Saturday, while the second and fourth-grade teams head to Richardson Park for their away games against South Perth.
