The WA All Abilities team has returned from Brisbane with their heads held high.
Last weekend, the APM WA AFL Inclusion State Team – coached by East Perth forward Tom Medhat – took a group of 16 players, along with the APM WA Wheelchair State Team to the sunshine state for the inaugural Toyota AFL Open.
The Inclusion team was unfortunately knocked out of the finals in straight sets against premiers Tasmania and South Australia.
But on Tuesday, local lad Fraser Kickett celebrated alongside his 15 other team mates after finishing third in the National Inclusion carnival. Fraser is a proud Kelmscott All Abilities Football Team member who has also played over 100 games for the Gosnells Hawks.
Armadale resident and Inclusion Team Captain Daniel Harvey was thrilled to have seen his team take out the bronze in Queensland.
“I was excited and honoured to captain Western Australia in the AFL open,” Harvey said.
In only his second year since moving to WA from Queensland, Harvey was given the role of leader after he impressed all his coaches and teammates with the way he conducted himself, his bravery, and football ability.
The wins didn’t come as planned for the wheelchair team, but they fought valiantly, with Captain Ben Green being announced in the All-Australian team.
