Cricket and soccer players in Gosnells will soon have a new playing field to enjoy, with Jean Garvey Park set to be upgraded in 2025.
City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said the park upgrade is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to providing quality sports facilities for the community and believes that quality playing fields encourage residents to stay active, spend time outdoors, and build valuable connections.
“Demand from sports clubs for quality playing fields in the City is consistently high and this upgrade will open up more space for games and training, as well as for residents who simply want to throw or kick a ball around with family and friends,” Mayor Lynes said.
“As part of the upgrade, the oval’s underground drainage and reticulation will be improved, and the City will transform the playing fields so they are equal to the City’s premier sporting ovals.”
Slightly larger than 4.5 hectares, Jean Garvey Park is located along Ashburton Drive and can also be accessed via surrounding streets, including Greenough Way, Young Street, Hann Court, and Roderick Close.
The park is also home to the iconic Gosnells Skate Park and the City of Gosnells’ Shack Youth Space, making it a popular destination for a range of outdoor activities.
Work is set to begin in April 2025, with the new fields expected to be ready for games by late 2025.
