Gosnells Golf Club hosts thrilling junior invitational

The inaugural IJG Gosnells Junior Invitational, held last month at the Gosnells Golf Club, saw 70 junior golfers compete in a thrilling 54-hole event.

Hosted by Gosnells Golf Club and the Indonesian Junior Golf Organisation, the event was open to all junior amateur golfers under 18.

Thirteen-year-old local talent and Gosnells Golf Club member Halia Edwards claimed victory in the Girls Championship, edging out her competitors by one stroke to secure the win on the final hole.

Edwards has been a member of Gosnells Golf Club since she was seven and plays off a handicap of 2.

As a local representative, the club praised her victory as a popular one, with many more accomplishments expected for this rising star.

Despite being locked in a tense battle on the final day, going shot for shot with eventual runner-up Liam Sullivan, Ollie Marsh, a member of Joondalup Country Club, showcased his consistency over the three days of competition.

He finished the 54-hole tournament on even par to become the Boys Champion, winning by just one stroke.

Other notable winners include Heejoo Cho as the Girls Runner-Up, Mason Burr as the 15 and Over Boys Champion, and Isabella Leniartek as the 15 and Over Girls Champion.

Afham Bin Othman Muhammad claimed the 14 and Under Boys title, while Meihui Zhao won the 14 and Under Girls Championship.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes attended the final day of the tournament, where she presented the trophies and honoured the two champions.
