The City of Canning is inviting everyone, including dogs, to its Australia Day Family Fun Day at Shelley Beach.

The City of Canning is inviting residents to come down to Shelley Beach Foreshore on 26 January from 9 am to 2 pm for its annual Australia Day Family Fun Day.

Supported by the National Australia Day Council, the event will feature a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages.

A Citizenship Ceremony, followed by a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will kick off the event from 9 am.

Kids’ Aussie-themed craft activities, sporting pop-ups, face painting, a big kahuna water slide, and various performances, including by the Canning City Brass Band, are just some of the entertainment set to be on offer.

Dogs are once again welcome to attend the event, with the crowd favourite Puppy Parade, doggy competition, dog adventure course, and pet-friendly photo booth also returning.

A diverse range of cuisines will be available for purchase from food trucks, or attendees can bring their own rugs, chairs, and picnic food.
The winners of the Auspire Community Citizen of the Year Awards will be announced on the day, recognising outstanding contributions from Canning residents.

Plenty of entertainment will be on offer.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the Australia Day Family Fun Day celebrates multiculturalism, mateship, and the diversity that makes our Canning community so unique.

“This event is about celebrating what makes Canning so special – our multicultural community, strong sense of connection, and love for the beautiful environment we live in,” Mayor Hall said.

“It fosters a sense of connection and inclusivity and provides the community with an opportunity to come together to celebrate, reflect, and honour the diverse stories that contribute to our shared national identity.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the Canning community come together to celebrate this amazing country we live in and enjoy a day of great entertainment.”

While the event is dog-friendly, dogs must be on a lead at all times.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own keep cups and reusable water bottles.

Free onsite parking will be available; however, space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to carpool, take public transport, or walk or ride a bike where possible, and make use of the free bike racks at the event.
