A 60-year-old man from Forrestfield has been charged by police after allegedly impersonating a Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) officer.

At approximately 7:35 pm on Tuesday, January 14, the man attended a truck stop on Abernethy Road in Kewdale.

Police allege that while wearing overalls and a helmet emblazoned with DFES embroidery, the man entered a parked Holden Rodeo utility.

The vehicle is said to have been marked with reflective signage and stickers resembling a DFES vehicle.

It’s also alleged that as the vehicle travelled along Baldwin Street in Kewdale, the man activated red, white, and blue flashing lights and audible sirens installed on the car.

Following an investigation, Arson Squad detectives apprehended the man at a residence on Leake Street in Belmont on Monday, January 20.

During a search of the property, detectives located and seized imitation DFES equipment and clothing, including the Holden Rodeo utility.

The man is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 19, charged with impersonating a public officer.

As the investigation is still ongoing, police are urging anyone with information related to this or similar incidents to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
