The Rostrata Family Centre – Stage 2 extension and renewal, at Prendwick Park in Willetton, is now complete, enhancing much-needed community facilities and services for local families, groups and organisations.

The latest works follows the successful delivery of the Stage 1 Kindergarten building project at Prendwick Park in 2022, and the completion of the Prendwick Pavilion upgrade in 2024.

The $2.39 million project was jointly funded, with the Australian Government contributing $883,037 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the Department of Communities providing $200,000, and the City of Canning investing $1.3 million to deliver the renewal.

Officially opened on February 23, City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall welcomed the completion of the project, highlighting the significant benefits it will provide to the community.

“The Rostrata Family Centre has been a valued community space for many years, and this renewal ensures it continues to serve as a welcoming and accessible hub for residents of all ages,” Mayor Hall said.

“With expanded hireable spaces, upgraded amenities, and a dedicated storage area for the Willetton Toy Library, this extension will allow more community groups and services to connect with the people who need them most.”

The additional spaces will enable increased activities and broaden the centre’s services to meet the demands of the growing community. Importantly, accessibility upgrades, including improved entrances and upgraded toilet facilities, will ensure the centre is more inclusive for the diverse community groups who rely on the space.

The City’s total investment has also supported the refurbishment of the existing 30-year-old Rostrata Family Centre, an upgraded carpark, including ACROD bays, seniors’ priority parking, and short-stay bays, the renewal of the existing children’s playground, and the planting of 20 new trees within the surrounding parkland.

Holistically, Mayor Hall said these improvements have transformed Prendwick Park into an active and vibrant community hub, ensuring the centre remains a vital resource for residents now and into the future.

“The City of Canning is committed to investing in high-quality community spaces, and this project is a perfect example of how partnerships between different levels of government can deliver real benefits for local residents,” he said.

“The City of Canning thanks the Australian Government, the Department of Communities and all partners involved for their contributions to this important project.”

Federal Member or Tangney Sam Lim, who attended the opening, said this was another example of the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering high-priority community infrastructure for the region.

“The Rostrata Family Centre has been a hub for the community for many years, so it is great to see work complete on this project, ensuring it will remain as a centrepiece of support for our area for many years to come,” he said.
