The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale recently kicked off its Skill Up Program for 2025.
The free program is for young people in the community aged 12 to 24. Each course provides participants with valuable skills that will prepare them for the WA job-market.
The program includes a series of accredited workshops, including White Card training, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), resume writing, barista training and other hands-on courses designed to set young people up for success in the workplace.
Shire President Rob Coales said he is excited about the program, which is now in its second year.
“In 2024 we had hundreds of young people participate in our first ever Skill Up program,” he said. “This year we’ve built a program with even more certifications and opportunities.”
Mr Coales said making sure young people in SJ have opportunities to succeed is critical.
“The young people who live in our Shire make it a vibrant and wonderful place for everyone,” he said. “We need to take care of them, by giving them the tools and support they need to build a career they will love.”
On Saturday, April 5, the first free RSA course of the year will be run at the Briggs Park Youth Space. Bookings are open now. And in May, young people can learn how to craft the perfect resume.
