the Cultural Ambassador Program has become a cornerstone in Canning’s commitment to inclusion and community dialogue.

Last month, the City of Canning welcomed its newest group of Cultural Ambassadors.

Eight passionate individuals representing 13 cultural communities and speaking 10 different languages.

As the program enters its fourth year, this new cohort is already gearing up to champion youth initiatives, boost participation in sports and recreation, build stronger connections between diverse communities and the City.

Launched in 2021, the Cultural Ambassador Program has become a cornerstone in Canning’s commitment to inclusion and community dialogue.

The programs’ impact is undeniable. In the past year alone, the ambassadors reached over 6,000 residents through City events and helped connect 12,000 individuals and groups to vital services, from housing support to community activities.

These community leaders also played a significant role in 15 diverse projects in 2023–2024, including community art workshops, women’s fitness sessions and consultations on waste management and community safety.

City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall praised the ambassadors’ role in fostering a “Welcoming and Thriving City.”

“Since its inception back in 2021, our Cultural Ambassadors have been vital in building relationships with our community that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible without their passion and guidance,” said Mayor Hall. “Creating a more accessible and inclusive community is at the heart of everything we do in Canning, and I’m incredibly excited to see what this year’s cohort will bring.”
