Two City of Canning Cannington leisureplex swim school teachers took out two awards at the Austswim King Neptune conference on July 11.

Martina McGovern took out the access and inclusion award and recognised the city’s swim school specifically for women from diverse backgrounds aimed at meeting the needs of the multicultural community of Canning.

The infants pre schoolers award was won by Chloe Were-Spice and recognised the program for the youngest and most vulnerable swimmers in the community, children from three months to toddlers.

Canning chief executive Lyn Russell said it was fantastic to be recognised at a state level.

“We are proud we can create opportunities,” she said.

“What makes the infants and pre-schoolers program so special is that we are able to help ensure young children are safe around water.”
