Two all girl teams took to the field for the first time for the Mundijong Centrals Junior
Football Club on the weekend in the under 12s and under 15s youth girls.
Female football coordinator and registrar Tracey Rafferty said while scores are not recorded in the younger category both teams played well, with the under 15s celebrating a convincing win.
“The club celebrated the first game with a huge crowd and banners for the girls to run through,” she said.
“It was fantastic to see the girls playing football with such vigour and determination while having fun with their friends.”
She said the launch of female football had been an exciting time for both the club and the community.
“The club is blown away with the interest female football has generated,” she said.
“After a successful launch in February the club was inundated with enquiries and registrations from girls aged eight to 16.”
She said the club looked forward to a successful season and hoped to provide opportunities for female football for many years to come.
