A Southern River resident has been left devastated after thieves stole her 400-kilogram gargoyle statue.
Alison O’Neill said the gargoyle had stood in her front yard for about eight years but it was taken at about 1.10am on July 6 in an apparently planned raid.
“Someone has actually planned in advance to come with a trailer and take it,” she said.
“I was in bed and heard the sound of them loading it on to the trailer and I ran out and put the light on but they jumped into the car and bolted.
“We had never worried about concreting it because of the sheer weight of it.
“It had to be delivered in a truck and it took several people to move it so I never thought it would be stolen.”
Unfortunately Ms O’Neill was unable to get a licence plate but is hoping a neighbour’s CCTV footage will reveal clues.
She was also hoping to have the gargoyle returned.
“It is a distinctive item and when I’ve saved up and paid all that money for it I want it back,” she said.
“I’m hoping someone has a guilty conscience or somebody knows what’s happened to it and reports it.”
She said if the gargoyle is returned she would not be placing it out the front again.
Gosnells Police acting senior sergeant Fraser Mainland said police were aware of the theft and were investigating.
