A Kelmscott hills woman has been left ‘shattered’ after escalating attempted burglaries and burglaries at her home over the past two years.

Jenny, who did not want her last name published, has had several break ins at her home since 2015 and her front door is scarred with marks from all of the attempted break ins.

The most recent incident occurred in the early hours of December 27 where a 26-year-old Thornlie woman allegedly smashed a window and entered the house while Jenny and her daughter were home.

The woman allegedly stole a kitchen knife before leaving the house.

Jenny called her son who lived nearby and he spotted the woman walking along the road.

They notified police and she was arrested a few minutes later.

A month prior to that her kitchen window was broken when offenders attempted to break in. Jenny said she was left shattered.

“I’m pretty much a nervous wreck I suppose, the two break-ins were four or five weeks between,” she said.

“You feel like you’re completely vulnerable because you can lock your house up as much as you want but if they want to come in they’ll still come in.”

She said there had been a surge in antisocial activity in the Kelmscott hills area over the past year.

Armadale senior sergeant Glenn Spencer said in the middle of last year police conducted an operation in the Kelmscott hills following a rise in crime but since then it had been sporadic.

“Over the last two months there’s been quite a sporadic crime pattern,” he said.

Member for Armadale Tony Buti said Jenny’s experience reiterated the need for an enhanced service 24 hour police station.

Police Minister Liza Harvey said since their police Frontline 2020 reforms response times had improved by up to 25 per cent and there were 22 per cent more cars on patrol during peak periods.
