Member for Armadale Tony Buti was hoping to get the PCYC back into Armadale after pledging $110,000 for them to run a special program for at risk youth.
The program will be designed to reduce anti-social behaviour in public spaces, particularly around train stations.
Dr Buti said if WA Labor wins the March election the funding would be available for PCYC to run their Off the Rails program for one year.
“I am very happy that we may see PCYC return to Armadale because we were all very disappointed when they ceased activities here last year,” he said.
“Off the Rails is a highly successful youth intervention program for young people aged between 10 and 18 years and runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings between 6pm and 9pm.
“Staff pick up at risk youth from pre-designated locations and provide them the opportunity to engage in a variety of sports, creative and recreational activities.
“Each session is free of charge; participants enjoy a meal and a bus service drops them all home safely each night.”
Dr Buti said a similar program was launched in Gosnells last year and was highly successful.
“I believe that this type of activity is a great opportunity for young people from the Armadale area to interact with their peers in a safe environment,” he said.
“It is a win for everyone.”
PCYC left the Armadale area in 2015 forcing it gymnastics club and police rangers to find new homes.
