It might not seem to be of value to some people, but when Ron Iannello’s wooden sign was stolen earlier this month, the Jarrahdale resident was heartbroken.
The sign with the words ‘Francesca’s Garden,’ written on it had been named after his late mother and was made by a good friend of his to commemorate her life.
On June 16 Mr Iannello found it missing from the front of his property where it had been put up.
“It has a lot of sentimentality for me,” he said.
Mr Iannello searched the surrounding area without any luck.
He said he then sent an email to Senior Sergeant Darryl Brandis at Mundijong Police Station.
“I also sent out emails to a number of Jarrahdale residents and prepared a picture brochure for the local post office,” he said.
“Additionally my daughter placed a message and a photograph on Facebook.”
Senior Sergeant Darryl Brandis said the police posted it on their Twitter page and shared the image around, with great success.
Last Sunday the sign was discovered by Mr Iannello leaning against his fence.
Mr Iannello said he was disappointed someone would steal such a special item but was delighted it had been returned.
“I am heartened to know that someone with a conscience has thought twice about their actions and decided to show their decent side,” he said.
