More than 7000 plants were planted in anticipation of a new park in the City of Canning, which officially opened last week.

Dabchick Park is on Dabchick Close and Treemartin Place in East Cannington and has been redeveloped with a modern focus.

It features a traditional play area built with natural materials, basketball and netball hoops, outdoor exercise equipment, barbecue area and large grassed space.

It also contains the city’s first reflexology path, which are designed to massage and stimulate pressure points on the feet as you walk.

The city said it had focused on making the park have a strong natural link with native plants in the surrounding area.

More than 100 native trees and 7000 shrubs were planted as part of the redevelopment, which were designed to provide a natural environment for local wildlife.

Mayor Paul Ng said the new park was one of several natural corridors being built in Canning.
