The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale will celebrate Australia Day with a traditional community breakfast at the SJ Community Recreation Centre on Friday, 26 January 2024.
Residents are invited to join their family, friends and neighbours for a fair dinkum feed of bacon and eggs from 7.30am – 9.30am. The breakfast is free to attend with local community groups and volunteers on deck to dish up.
The shire’s annual Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony will follow shortly after. The ceremony is an invite-only event for people receiving awards or obtaining citizenship and their families.
Shire president Rob Coales said the day was an opportunity for SJ residents from all walks of life to celebrate their local community.
“Serpentine Jarrahdale is an amazing place to live, and Australia Day is a perfect chance for us all to reflect on the things that contribute to that,” he said.
“I’m excited to honour the volunteers who go above and beyond in their service to our community at our awards ceremony, and also to welcome our newest Australian citizens.
“Before that, I encourage everyone to join us and kick off the long weekend by enjoying a free breakfast and some great company.”
The following awards will be presented at the ceremony:
- 2023 Clem Kentish Community Service Award
- Citizen of the Year
- Citizen of the Year – Senior
- Citizen of the Year – Youth
- Award for Active Citizenship
