A Gosnells resident feels there is a need for greater diversity and fairer representation of the community, which is why she will be running for the City of Gosnells council in October.

Serena Williamson, 35, said she was not a stereotypical councillor.

As a mother of two young children, Ms Williamson has lived in Gosnells her entire life and said she understood the impacts decisions made at council level had on everyday lives and on future residents.

She said she would like the opportunity to be a voice for the community.

“I haven’t aligned myself with any specific interest groups,” she said.

“I feel it is important for councillors to perform their duties without bias and to make ethical and informed decisions to represent the best interests of the community we serve.”

Ms Williamson said if elected she would like to be strong voice for families and seniors and would commit herself to growing and improving facilities and services in the community.

She was not stranger when it comes to fighting for a cause she believed in having successfully advocated for Bletchley Park Primary School families.

She advocated for students to learn in a safe location after it was found out the kindergarten was next to a petrol station.

The council elections will be held on October 21.
