ANZAC quilts a labour of love

Kathy Cameron has hung her ANZAC quilts at the Ladies Auxiliary kiosk at Armadale Hospital.

Eleven years ago, Kathy Cameron put her hand up to volunteer at the Ladies Auxiliary kiosk at Armadale Health Service (AHS) following the passing of her husband.

“When my husband fell ill and he was in the hospital, I went to the kiosk to buy something and they were looking for volunteers,” she said.

Kathy had been taking sewing lessons and started making quilts, including some beautiful ANZAC quilts, which are now on display at the kiosk.

“I work at the kiosk every Sunday and I sew on the other days,” she said.

“I’ve been making the ANZAC quilts for a few years now – I saw the pattern and just loved the colours – and they are becoming very popular.”

It only takes Kathy three to four hours to make each quilt.

“I love sewing and making things for other people. I thought these quilts would look good hanging up or over somebody’s knees.”

One of her masterpieces.
