About 80 homes in the Armadale area were left without power overnight, but Western Power said nothing serious had happened to cause the blackout.

The power was switched back on this morning after inspectors were called out to check  what had tripped the line into automatically switching off during the night.

Western Power media specialist Paul Entwhistle said they did not know what had caused the system to automatically shut off, but suspected something had fallen onto a line.

“Something tripped the line, so we sent out some inspectors,” he said.

“They couldn’t find any damage, so they returned everybody to power.

“A branch probably hit the power lines, and a safety measure cut the power.”
