Kerry Faulkner was given a commendation in the 2017 ‘Our Corner Store’-themed competition for her photo ‘Norm’s Lunch Bar’.

The City of Armadale’s Focus Photographic Competition is officially open, with the theme for 2025 being ‘Architectural Gems’.

Architectural Gems has categories for both street level and drone photography, and is open to amateur photographers aged 18 and older, who are Australian residents.

“Our annual local history photographic competition, hosted by Birtwistle Local Studies Library, offers amateur photographers a chance to showcase their skills. The competition’s aim is to capture the present-day historical reality, for viewing by future generations,” Mayor Ruth Butterfield said.

“We are looking for present-day photographs or drone images that show aspects of the City’s history through its buildings and their surrounds, both past and present.”

The ‘Open Theme – Historical Pre-2000’ category asks for scans of photographs more than 25 years old that show any aspect of how life was in our district over the past decades.

Winners receive a professional print of their image and a cash prize of $300, $200 and $100 for first, second and third place respectively.

Entries close on Monday 31 March 2025.
