An Armadale school student has won an award for her work at the City of Armadale’s annual Outside the Frame art awards.

John Wollaston Anglican Community School student Georgia Rickard picked up the Local Artist Award and was the only prize-winning student from school in the City of Armadale.

Year 11 and 12 students submitted more than 70 entries to the competition from 17 schools across Perth.

Ms Rickard’s piece Absurdity of Exclusion won out over a number of other students from Armadale and she received an art supplies voucher to support further development of her skills.

Other categories included painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles and photography with each winner receiving art books related to their category and a voucher.

Mayor Henry Zelones said the high calibre of entries had made it hard for judges to select winners.

“Once again the competition attracted entries that impressed the judges with the level of innovation and skill,” he said.

“They have used their talent to express the issues that affect them in their young lives.

“The city is committed to providing young people in the community with the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and opinions to the community.”

The Outside The Frame exhibition will be open to the public until August 20 at the Armadale District Hall.

The hall is open from 11am to 4pm daily.
