A beloved police officer has died from a medical episode while on duty on Saturday.
WAPOL announced the passing of police dog Ace yesterday.
“PD Ace, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois and his handler 1/C Constable Elphick graduated the Canine Handler course together in November 2021,” the WAPOL announcement said.
“They had an incredible bond and worked hard to keep our community safe, even featuring on the first episode of the Persons of Interest podcast to share one of their most memorable jobs.
“PD Ace was a dedicated and hardworking member of the police force. He will be greatly missed.”
On the Persons of Interest podcast Constable Jayden Elphick described the remarkable bond that had developed between Ace and himself over the years working together.
“He’s a beautiful boy, but he knows how to turn it on, when he needs to,” he said.
“At the end of the day he’s always gonna be there to back me up – rain, hail or shine.”
Tributes for PD Ace have been pouring in over the past 24 hours.
Thank you for your service PD Ace, much love and sympathies to everyone who knew him, Rest In Peace Good Boy,” Allison Bulock said.
“Not all heroes wear capes, some wear fur,” Rebecca Allen said.
“Thank you so much for your service. Rest in Peace, PD Ace,” RSPCA WA said.
“Heartfelt condolences to his fellow colleagues, both canine and human. And to Constable Elphick. You were chosen for him – he knows you loved him immensely – take those memories and I’m sure Ace will be with you for your next Pups when you’re ready,” Nene King said.
