The Canning Bowling Club has been demolished and the city wants to know how best to use the land.

The Cannington Bowling Club has been demolished and the City of Canning is now looking at alternative uses for the site.

The 49-year-old building was closed in 2016 after concerns it had exceeded its lifespan and followed years of financial woes at the club.

The city said community consultation had been carried out to decide the best way to use the land once the building had been demolished and feedback will now be provided to council on November 23, and not on November 14 as previously reported.

Mayor Paul Ng said a wealth of suggestions had been put forward, including a proposal for a ninja warrior course.

“Ideas for the short term use of the area included a community garden, farmers’ market, night markets, pop-up event area, parkland, outdoor cinema area in the warmer months, adventure playground or an area where play equipment for older children could be installed, similar to a ninja warrior course,” he said.

Mr Ng said long-term uses of the area could include turning it into parkland, building a community, adult learning or senior citizens centre, or as a community garden or developing a Men’s Shed there.

Further public consultation will be undertaken within months to determine community preferences for the future of the site.
