The Coalition has announced a $2.4 million commitment towards the redevelopment and expansion of the Thornlie Bowling Club.
Social Services Minister Christian Porter joined Liberal candidate for Burt Matt O’Sullivan, Senator Linda Reynolds and Thornlie Bowling Club director Rick Scupham to make the announcement at the weekend.
Mr O’Sullivan said the project would provide one of Perth’s largest and most dynamic bowling clubs with new clubrooms and multi-use facilities for the wider community.
“There has not been an investment of this magnitude in Thornlie for public or community facilities since the Leisure World was built,” he said.
“I am delighted with this commitment from a re-elected Turnbull Government providing the final piece of this $5 million project.”
Mr Scupham said the funding would allow the club to continue growing.
“This year marks our 50th year of the club,” he said.
“With this funding commitment we can expand, grow our membership and become even more vibrant.
“We host various bowls events during the week plus social events and it is great we will be able to keep doing this for the next 50 years.”
In March The Examiner reported the club had outgrown its facility by double its capacity.
The club had previously been attempting to attract state funding for a feasibility study to redevelop the site.
