A heartfelt speech by Kelmscott Bulldogs Head Coach Robert Turner congratulated his Integrated All-Abilities Division B team on taking out the 2022 premiership, after the team won four straight finals games to claim the flag.
In what was a first finals appearance for many of the integrated squad, Kelmscott defeated Fremantle CBC in the Division B integrated Grand Final at Kingsway Reserve: Fremantle CBC 2.5 (17) Kelmscott 10.14 (74).
Despite leading at the end of the first quarter, the Fremantle side was overpowered throughout the rest of the game by Kelmscott’s dominant defence and teamwork.
Star forward Jarrod Staines kicked three to cement his place as lead goal-scorer for the side’s 2022 season.
But in his emotional celebration of Kelmscott’s “monumental achievement, Head Coach Rob Turner acknowledged the support of the sporting club’s community.
“I cried in joy when they won,” Coach Turner said.
“All players have come so far from season beginnings and I couldn’t be prouder.
“The premiership win greatly shows how important inclusion in our community is after starting the team last year with just a handful of players and growing to more than 50 playing and non-playing participants.”
Speaking from Peurta Galera in the Phillipines, Coach Turner addressed his team in the lead up to the Grand Finals match up.
“You are all massively deserving of this monumental achievement and for what you have done for your community, your club and your own lives and the lives of those close to you,” he said.
“As your coach I have had the pleasure of seeing your eagerness and willingness inspire yourself, the club, community and your teammates to grow as footballers and individuals.
“I have the greatest belief in what you can accomplish this afternoon.
“More importantly, I have the greatest belief in what you can accomplish every day in your life.
“Regardless of the result, know that I am proud of you, and our Kelmscott community are super proud of you.
“You’re my heroes and no footy result will change that ever.”
Kelmscott Bulldogs’ Football Club’s celebrations are not yet over, with the WC4 Women’s Grand Final taking place this Saturday against Cockburn Cobras at Gosnells Oval at 2pm this Saturday.
It is the only the second time in 22 years that Kelmscott has achieved two teams in a Grand Final.
