The City of Canning is inviting the community to kick off the new year with a bang at its annual concert and fireworks display on the banks of the Swan River at the Shelley Beach foreshore.
The free, family-friendly event kicks off at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, January 1, offering a celebration to welcome in the beginning of 2025.
The event will offer plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained, including kids’ inflatables, face painting, crafts, storytelling, and a Bubble Workshop.
On stage, there will be performances from Proof the Band and solo sets by two local musicians.
The evening will conclude with a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display, starting at approximately 8 pm.
Mayor Patrick Hall said this event offers a great opportunity for the community to unite and celebrate a fresh start.
“The annual New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks always attracts a great crowd, it’s so nice to see so many people from our community coming together to celebrate a time of hope and new beginnings,” he said.
“With loads of entertainment and a great range of food trucks, this year’s the event will also feature the fantastic new Shelley Beach playground which was officially opened on 18 December,” Mayor Hall said.
The New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks at the foreshore marks the first major event since the opening of the new Shelley Beach playground earlier this month, which features three distinct play areas to suit children of all ages, including a custom Park Warrior course, sensory elements, and interactive structures.
Community members are encouraged to bring a rug and picnic, and there will also be food trucks offering a variety of cuisines, with food and refreshments available for purchase.
Free onsite parking is available; however, spaces are limited. People are encouraged to carpool, use public transport, or walk or ride a bike where possible.
Additionally, a shuttle bus will be available from an offsite car park at Centenary Park in Wilson.
