Guardian Pharmacy celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 23 with owner John Cooke saying the secret to a successful business was to treat other people how you would like to be treated.

Mr Cooke said the pharmacy opened in 1996 and the ability to adapt to all things new was important.

“Have we really had 20 years experience or have we have had one years experience 20 times over,” he said.

“In our case I think it’s the former.”

Mr Cooke said the pharmacy was the first major business venture he and his wife began and they have not looked back since.

“The whole area has grown around us,” he said.

“At the time Canning Vale only had three estates opened and there was a real need for medical and pharmacy services.

“I found myself acting as a bit of a vet at some points, advising some of the local kennel and cattery owners which surrounded us.”

Mr Cooke said the pharmacy was won the 2016 Community Engagement award earlier this year and he was proud.

“Being in business is not without its challenges but the enjoyment has come in seeing our own team members develop over the years,” he said.

“We have enjoyed giving back to our customers and we have enjoyed supporting the local schools and sporting clubs.

“Its feels really good when you meet some of your long standing customers and hear their apperception of the service you have offered.”
