The City of Canning last week voted to approve a request to change a residential property in the city’s northeast into a childcare centre.

The proposed centre would be at the intersection of Doust and Brinkley Street.

The property currently on the land is residential but the property would be converted to be suitable as a childcare facility.

It would care for up to 30 children with six staff and 10 parking bays.

The city said operating hours would be limited strictly between 7am and 6pm and a 1.8m brick boundary fence would be required around three sides of the property to minimise noise from the centre’s play area, driveway and car park.

The proposal to approve the property’s change from a residential lot to a childcare centre was voted for nine votes in favour and one against.

There is already a childcare centres in the immediate vicinity of the property.

Mother’s Pride Family Day Care on Hamilton Street is 230m from the proposed childcare centre.
