Choir’s fundraising effort for local family exceeds expectation

The Byford Heritage Country Choir is determined to help others in need next year after raising an incredible $3400 for the Wright family at their Singing Around the World concert in August.

Choir founder and president Eileen Davis was blown away by the community’s support for the fundraiser at St Aiden’s Anglican Church on August 25.

“We never raised this much before, it’s astronomical,” Ms Davis said.

Ms Davis was quick to thank those who gave freely of their time and energy to help a local family in need. From her fellow choristers who laid out a “banquet”, to the Bedfordale CWA who served tea and coffee, “they all donated what they could – even the venue waived the hire fees.”

Nicci Wright, whose husband Steve was hospitalised in February with a spinal injury, said she broke down crying on hearing of the community’s generosity.

“From the bottom of our family’s hearts, thank you for your thoughtfulness, your care and the kindness you have all put into this,” she said, saying the money had gone mostly towards car registration and rent.

“Without your help and support we would be so behind; it’s given us the breathing space to be a family.”

Ms Davis said the Byford Heritage Country Choir is determined to make an annual event of helping a community member in need and encouraged others to join the “all-inclusive choir.”

“There are no auditions, just come along and enjoy yourself. Whether you’re old, young, hard of hearing, can’t sing, it’s all about the joy of singing.

“You would be amazed how it feels to have all these voices around you, it makes you happy, I come away elated every time.”
