A local tavern will be decorated with all things Christmas later this month to raise money and awareness for a Southern River pro-life cat and dog refuge.

The Animal Protection Society of WA will host its Christmas in July event at Nicholson’s Bar and Grill in Canning Vale on July 18 in the hope of raising much-needed funds to assist in the everyday running of the shelter.

Head cat carer Sandra Ottley said unfortunately the number of cats surrendered to the shelter remained constantly high.

“There is a never ending supply of cats and kittens either impounded, abandoned or needing to be rehomed throughout the community,” she said.

“We hope that extra interest shown in these types of events and promotions will help us find loving homes for our cats and kittens.”

The shelter was also hoping its half price adoption fees for the month of July would increase awareness.

The Christmas in July lunch will start at 11am and will include prizes, raffles and games.
