The City of Gosnells said it was trying to get a state election candidate’s signs removed from Nicholson Road, which have been left up since March.
Four WA Liberal Party signs for former Cannington candidate Jesse Jacobs, who is a City of Canning councillor, have been left on roadside poles on Nicholson Road between Albany Highway and High Road in the City of Gosnells.
City of Gosnells chief executive Ian Cowie said the city had clear requirements for election signage to have been removed within two weeks of the election, and the major parties had been informed of that in writing.
It has now been six months since the vote.
“The city’s Town Planning Scheme and Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law provides guidelines around the placement and timely removal of election signs,” he said.
“In the specific case referred to, traffic management measures and a cherry picker would be required to take the signs down.
“The city has made contact with the Liberal Party asking that they give priority to removing the election signage.
“We are waiting for them to respond appropriately by taking the signs down.”
The signage placement on a combined power and light pole is also in violation of local laws, which do not permit signage to be attached to power or light poles.
The Examiner contacted the WA Liberal Party and former candidate Jesse Jacobs to find out when the signs would be removed, but neither responded by deadline.
