On behalf of the players and members, the Kelmscott Bulldogs invite the public to join them in celebrating and acknowledging our country’s First Nations origins through Indigenous cultural celebrations.

A Welcome to Country ceremony will take place at 3pm on the main oval between the Men’s Reserves and League games this Saturday.

All five Bulldogs teams will play at home and wear the club’s first Indigenous jumpers, which will be unveiled to supporters and spectators for the first time on the day.

The Indigenous jumpers were unveiled to the players on June 20.

Custodians of each team were presented with jumpers to share across the community and with fellow players and supporters in the lead up to this weekend.

The Kelmscott Bulldogs Football Club’s Indigenous jumper combines the proud 125-year history of the club with the celebration of Indigenous Aboriginal culture.

Representing the Darling Range Hills and Canning River on which Kelmscott is founded, the artwork reflects the unity of the community and families – a strong ethos which has been carried by the Kelmscott Football Club since its foundations.

The unique design was prepared by local artist and former Bulldogs player Aaron Donaldson. It was created in accompaniment with a story by Trepheena Eades Hansen and in collaboration with Kelmscott Community elders.

Trepheena Hansen and Robert Turner led the foundation of the club’s first Indigenous jumper after last year’s NAIDOC celebrations for the Bulldogs.

They transposed the Indigenous artwork onto a jumper design with the blessing of elders.

The jumpers have been proudly contributed by local member Dr Tony Buti.

And they will be kept by the club to feature each year in special NAIDOC and Indigenous Cultural celebrations.

Before laying out the jumper design, the club looked back at its proud jumper history and past cultural acknowledgments described by club legend Kim Turner and community Aboriginal Elder Mort Hansen.

An emphasis was placed on the historic blue and white of the Bulldogs jumper; colours that have been worn by many people of varying cultural backgrounds.

The jumper is the same for everyone regardless of culture, and distinguishes players as Kelmscott Bulldogs – as one.

League team top of the ladder

The Bulldogs sit top of the ladder, with just a small percentage from second-placed Kenwick.

This weekend’s top of the table clash between the two teams will be the crowing decider at John Dunn for Kelmscott’s NAIDOC Celebrations, following the Welcome to country ceremony at 3pm.

Over the weekend the League played a great four quarters of football.

Coach Shannon Collard said the great win was from the team “sticking to structure, and the young upcoming colts runners who were just too much for Baldivis”.

Rodney Jetta had a day out with 13 goals, Callum Collard snapped four goals whilst young gun Hayden Eades booted three.

“The delivery inside 50 to Rodney was way too good for any defender” Shannon said. “Things are falling into place as we start to prepare for finals over these next four games.”

Reserves

Coach Travis Burgess credited the Reserves’ win on Saturday to a great team effort, where everyone playing their role perfectly.

“It just goes to show, we can mix it with the best teams in the competition on the day,” Travis Said.

The Reserves are on the finals charge, trying to get the wins in the lead up to the final Top four.

A massive five goals went to Jacob Bromfield and four to Jason Green.

Baldivis 7.6 (48) lost to Kelmscott 17.7 (109).

Women’s

Coach Bill Hansen wanted the girls to start the game well, and to their credit they did. The Bulldogs put Coolbinia away early in the game with ten unanswered goals in the first half.

Summer Yarran put on a show up front with 11 goals.

The middle worked hard and dominated all game whilst Zalie Betts was great down back.

The undefeated Top of the ladder Womens Team will be looking forward to this weekend’s derby against Roleystone.

Colts

Kelmscott started slow in the first quarter and were jumped by Winnacott’s goal lead at the end of the first.
