The community has gathered at Centrals Football Club at the weekend to celebrate its last home game in what has been a rocky season for the Mundijong-based side.

With a shortened season and only four home games, Club Treasurer Linda Branley said the club had decided to hold all of its main events in one day – Super Saturday.

The afternoon included a Ladies Day, Sponsors Day, past players and three games of football – with the junior Auskickers taking to the field at half time.

With its netball club season cancelled in the wake of COVID-19, Mrs Branley said it was more important than ever to keep the club’s members together.

“Super Saturday turned out to be the best day in club history for our club,” she said.

“With our netball season cancelled, it was more important than ever to keep our club members together, so many of our ladies loved the chance to dress up and have a fantastic afternoon.

“The weather was perfect, too.

“We also had our Past Players and Life Members Day, which was a great opportunity for many to come back to the club and catch up with old mates and spin a tale or ten about their days playing for the club.”

Club president Rodney Glands confirmed that the celebration was enough to boost the spirits of the side’s teams – with the Colts, Reserves and League teams defeating the opposition to head straight into the finals next weekend.

The Colts defeated Halls Head 89 to 46, while the Reserves secured a 36-point win.

The League side was running hot after last weekend’s epic win and continued – securing an 83-point win.
