CVC students competed at the World Scholar’s Cup for the first time and described the experience as amazing.

In a first for Canning Vale College, the school has participated in the fourth annual Perth Round of the World Scholar’s Cup earlier this month.

A dozen year seven students competed in team debating, collaborative essay writing and general knowledge quizzes, at the one hundred and second regional round and the largest in the country with more than 300 participants.

Year seven student Mia Oughton said it was brilliant to be able to learn and compete in a relaxed and exhilarating environment.

“There was no limit to how you would express your knowledge,” she said.

“I think it’s a huge step forward for Canning Vale College.

“We competed against so many intelligent schools and considering this was our first year at the World Scholar’s cup we did amazing.”

Canning Vale College associate principal Natalie Simms coached worked and supervised the students as they competed.

She said it was a real challenge to get the students prepared for the tournament in such a short time.

“I was so proud of each and every one of the students and seeing them participate in debates, challenges and even the scholars show,” she said.

“A huge congrats.”
