A Southern River woman has taken out second place in the Armadale Writers Awards.

Lucy Wagenaar’s story The Sins of the Fathers was voted second best entrant in the annual competition, and helped her to a share of the $2250 competition prize pool.

She was second to Bicton resident Paul Douglas Robertson, whose Aussie Happy Hour was deemed best.

Alaxander Heights resident Natasha Robinson came third.

City of Armadale mayor Henry Zelones said 143 entries were received from across Western Australia, which suggested the competition could regularly be open to more than just Armadale residents.

“This is the first year that the city has run a writing competition which was open to amateur adult writers living in WA,” he said.

“This is strong evidence that more competitions of this kind are needed and the city is pleased to be able to continue to enhance and promote creative writing expression across Western Australia.”
