Mandurah Detectives have busted an alleged copper thief after $6000 in high voltage copper cable was stolen in Karnup earlier this month.

On Friday 8 November, police swooped into a bushland area near Paganoni Road in Karnup after $6000 in high voltage copper cable was reported stolen from the area the day prior.

Officers witnessed a grey Ford Territory leaving the area and switched on their lights and sirens.

But the driver allegedly took off and police pursued him through several nearby streets.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Marillana Drive.

Police say when they searched the vehicle, they found numerous lengths of high voltage copper cabling along with hand tools consistent with being utilised to steal copper cabling.

A 31-year-old man with charged with several offences including stealing, attempted stealing, failure to stop, reckless driving to escape police pursuit, and possessing Dexamphetamine.

He is due to appear before the Mandurah Magistrates Court on 3 December.
