With local governments feeling the impact of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, City of Canning council meetings are now going online.
The local government administration Amendment Regulations 2020 have been gazetted and allow elected members to join council meetings by electronic means in the event of either a public health emergency or a state of emergency, subject to certain approvals.
A City of Canning spokesperson said the city is currently working through the best way to address the new regulations.
“This includes how to provide elected members with the means to join council meetings electronically, how to record the meetings and what process is needed for public questions,” he said.
“We do not anticipate this will change the meeting dates in 2020.”
The public will have an opportunity to submit questions and recordings of council meetings will continue to be made available to the public.
Local government minister David Templeman said it is important that local governments continue to support their communities during the pandemic.
