A 22-year-old man received a severe head wound after a Diwali Mela festival turned sour.

Piara Waters man charged after festival assault

Midland Detectives are continuing their investigation into a serious assault that occurred at a cultural festival in Wattle Grove on Saturday, 21 October, last year.

About 8:30pm, two groups of people attending the Diwali Mela festival at the Abruzzo Molise Sporting Club became involved in a fight between the clubhouse and the playground.

During the struggle, a 22-year-old man was struck to the head with a metal object, believed to be a pole.

The man received a skull fracture and was taken by St John WA to Royal Perth Hospital.

A 38-year-old man from Piara Waters has been charged with one count of ‘To cause fear that someone will be injured/disabled’ however inquiries remain ongoing, and detectives believe further persons were involved in the incident.

This was a significant event, with large crowd of bystanders who may have seen the incident. Detectives wish to speak with anyone that was present at the time of the incident.

Police probe Willetton fatal crash

Police are investigating a fatal crash which occurred in Willetton on Thursday, February 8.

About 5.10pm, a white Hyundai Elantra sedan taxi – travelling north on Beasley Road in Leeming – and a silver Toyota Corolla hatchback – travelling west on South Street in Willetton – collided.

The 74-year-old female passenger of the taxi was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for precautionary checks; however, passed away five days later due to complications.

Park fatal crash

Police are investigating a fatal crash which occurred in Victoria Park on Friday February 2.

About 4:20pm, a white MG station sedan – travelling south west on Oswald Street – collided with a e-scooter at a roundabout at the intersection of Hordern Street.

The 70-year-old male rider was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA; however, later died as a result of his injuries.

Loader stolen from Serpentine

The stolen PT50 2008 Skid Steer Posi-Track, with registration 1DBE355.

A posi-track loader was stolen from a Serpentine property over the weekend.

Between 10 and 12 February, an unknown person(s) has entered a work site on Utley Road in Serpentine and stolen the PT50 2008 Skid Steer Posi-Track.

The loader is estimated to be valued at $30,000.

As inquiries continue, Armadale Detectives are seeking information from the public to assist them with the investigation.
