A 13-year-old Gosnells boy performed in front of a crowd of 1600 people at this year’s Moorditj by Moonlight event at Wesley College earlier in the year.
The evening showcased the pride of young indigenous people and their traditions.
Cyril Jones, who had never performed in front of such a big crowd, said he felt nervous yet very proud.
His Spirit Dance performance had spectators feel the energy.
“In the dance we go very low to the ground so that is when we are getting the good energy and spreading it around to the people and other spaces,” he said.
“I didn’t know much about my culture and now I’ve learnt heaps.”
Headmaster Ross Barron said Cyril was a wonderful example.
“The whole event at the school was a fantastic example of true reconciliation where indigenous and non-indigenous members of the community celebrated a wonderful night of dance and song together,” he said.
