Firefighters, library friends, neighbourhood watch devotees and environmental warriors were among a mix of local volunteers treated to a special Christmas lunch last week.

About 150 community contributors were recognised by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale last Wednesday as part of the shire’s annual ‘Thank a Volunteer Day’ celebrations.

Shire president Michelle Rich said a Christmas lunch supplied with the help of the Department of Communities was a deserved gesture for the hard working volunteers across the shire.

“Volunteers come from all walks of life and are really the cornerstone of our community,” she said.

“It was a fun, relaxing way to thank people for their role in the community and the contribution they make to the lives of so many others.

“Without these dedicated volunteers the shire would certainly be a different place.”
