Get into the vibe of vibraphone

Greatest hits will be re-imagined by vibraphone player Nick Parnell when he brings his show Vibes Virtuoso to the Don Russell performing arts centre next month.

The musician’s last performance at the centre was his 2010 show Bach to Brazil during which he played an astonishing 50 percussion instruments.

In his latest offering Mr Parnell will focus on his principle instrument, the vibraphone, a large percussion instrument played with four mallets.

Accompanied by pianist Julie Sargent, Mr Parnell will present classics like Gershwin’s Summertime, Albeniz’s Tango and Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.

Mr Parnell previously attracted worldwide attention in 2008 when he recorded one of the world’s first solo classical vibraphone albums, classical vibes, for ABC classics.

He has since performed extensively including as a soloist with the Australian symphony orchestra.

The show will be held at the centre in Murdoch Road, Thornlie on September 18 from 7.30pm.

Tickets were $29.50, $25.50 for concession and $21.50 for groups of 10 or more.
