The City of Canning has partnered with Good Sammy Enterprises to launch an innovative on-demand donation collection service, making it easier for residents to give their quality pre-loved items a new home.
Starting from November 14, residents can schedule two donation collections per year through the City of Canning.
Donation collection bookings can be made via the City’s website, canning.wa.gov.au/ondemanddonations or by calling the City’s customer service team at 1300 422 664.
Once a booking is arranged, Good Sammy will collect donations directly from your residential address, where they will be sorted and resold in their stores.
Mayor Patrick Hall said he believes the innovative partnership between the City and Good Sammy will help promote the benefits of a circular economy and will make donating good quality items even easier for residents.
“This initiative aims to help divert quality household items from going to landfill, promoting a more sustainable approach to waste management within the community,” Mayor Hall said.
“Donating your unwanted goods and purchasing second-hand items creates less waste and is good for the environment as well as your wallet.”
CEO of Good Sammy, Kane Blackman, believes the collection service will complement other on-demand collection services available in Canning.
“Canning residents that use this service will also create employment opportunities for people with disability who drive Good Sammy’s trucks and handle the items, while they do right by the environment as well,” Mr Blackman said.
Eligible donations include items such as clothing, shoes, handbags, clothing accessories, kitchenware, towels, and bed linen.
For donations of a greater size, you can contact Good Sammy directly through goodsammy.com.au/home-collections.
The on-demand donation collection service, a West Australian local government first, will be trialled for a period of 12 months from November 14, 2024, to November 13, 2025.
