For one day only, donations made to RSPCA WA this Thursday, October 3, will be matched, dollar for dollar.
Corporate partners and generous individual donors have agreed to match the first $90,000 in donations, meaning every dollar raised will have ‘double the impact’ on some of our furry friends in need.
Executive Manager of Animal and Enforcement Operations at RSPCA WA, Hannah Dreaver, highlighted the importance of community support in maintaining the charity’s mission to help and care for distressed animals.
“We rely on donations to cover 80 per cent of the vital work we do every year, rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming thousands of sick, injured, abused and abandoned animals,” Ms Dreaver said.
“Days like our matched giving day on Thursday, when WA’s people who care about animals can double their financial impact, are vital to that work.”
RSPCA WA reported a 23 per cent increase in animal surrenders and an eight per cent rise in calls to the Cruelty Hotline during the 2023-24 financial year.
Ms Dreaver believes animals across WA have been suffering as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.
“Pet owners are telling us they can’t afford the basics like food and vet care, and the result is more animals needing our help,” she said.
“Factor in increases in our own operating costs, and donors and supporters who may be facing their own increased financial pressures and times are certainly tough.”
13-year-old border collie Sparky (pictured) was found wandering along a South West highway at Easter.
In pain, weak and covered in fleas, Sparky was brought into the RSPCA’s care, where he spent three and a half months receiving vet treatment and other rehabilitation.
Thanks to the support of donors and the care provided, he has now been transformed into a happy, healthy dog and has been adopted.
To help save more dogs like Sparky, donate to the RSPCA WA’s ‘Give to Get Them Home’ this Thursday by going to rspcagivingday.com or calling 9209 9311.
