Two dairy producers in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale have taken out gold in the royal agricultural society WA premium produce awards.

Mundella Foods in Mardella won gold for its marinated feta while Oakford-based family business Borrello Cheese won gold for its ricotta and romano cheeses.

Maree Lemme, whose parents Vince and Teresa Borrello run the business with their three daughters, said it was always an achievement to be able to produce an award winning cheese.

“They’re not stock standard cheeses and you can really tell the quality,” she said.

“It’s all made by hand and we use traditional methods, which is what sets us apart.”

Borrello Cheese has been operating for about 35 years and is now into its third generation of cheese makers.

Mundella Foods also took out first place for its premium natural yoghurt, Greek vanilla yoghurts and Greek honey yoghurt.
