Roleystone and Kelmscott will again be awash with stunning art as the So Unexpected exhibition takes over Avocados this weekend.
Coinciding with the Spring into Armadale festival the exhibition will showcase the diversity of professional talent in the region with painters, sculptors and fashion designers displaying their work from August 27 to 30.
Exhibition curator Wendy Jeffrey said the exhibition focused on a limited number of artists.
She said collectors would also be spoilt for choice with some of the artists on display having pieces in the national gallery in Canberra.
“Now in its second year we now have a platform that we know works and we are seeking to build on this reputation with new work this year,” she said.
“We are attracting not only artists but musicians, local authors and other artisans to the concept now.”
Ms Jeffrey said this So Unexpected was different in two ways. “Firstly for the artists themselves who are encouraged out of their comfort zones to get the most out of their involvement, to collaborate and grow with each other to truly take their abilities to the next level,” she said.
“Secondly and just as importantly we want visitors to the event to take the time to discover in more depth, the style, diversity and skill of each artist involved.
“The artists all apply for a spot in the exhibition and the ones returning all have brought new techniques, styles or even mediums, which demonstrates their commitment to their craft.,”
The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 4pm from August 27 to 30 at Avocados function and accommodation centre, 2 Mount Street, Kelmscott.
