Canning’s Rostrata Family Centre and Prendwick Pavilion in Willetton will undergo major transformations in the coming months after council endorsed the upgrades last month.
Due to commence in March, the project will include both internal and external works to the existing facilities, as well as landscape improvements.
The Rostrata Family Centre upgrades will include an extension to the existing building at the western end, featuring three new hireable spaces with associated amenities and storage space.
The centre will also see a refurbishment of the existing building which will consist of toilet facility upgrades, ceiling and roof replacement, accessibility upgrades and new air conditioning.
Upgrades to Prendwick Pavilion will include additional storage space, upgrades to the social space and change rooms, improved accessibility, and renewal of the public toilets.
Improvements to the existing access pathways and ACROD car bays, a new visitor set down and pick-up bay, a tree replacement program and landscape reinstatement will form the external upgrades.
Mayor Patrick Hall said he was pleased to see the project start and is looking forward to seeing the facilities transformed.
“These facilities are regularly used by a range of members from the community including the volunteers and community members who frequently use the Rostrata Family Centre, and the varying sporting clubs who utilise the pavilion,” he said.
“The upgrades will create a more welcoming, inclusive and functional space for all visitors, club members and spectators.”
The works will be partly funded by various agencies, including the City of Canning.
The Australian Government is contributing almost $900,000 in Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program funding towards the Rostrata Family Centre’s extension and renewal.
The State Government will also provide funding through the Department of Communities and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), which is a major supporter of community sport and recreational facilities in Western Australia.
As a part of the City of Canning’s Play Provision Strategy, the playground at Prendwick Park will also undergo a partial renewal mid this year.
