Fire crews from Roleystone, Armadale, Maddington and Murdoch were called to a house fire yesterday morning, which caused about $400,000 damage.
The fire at the Roleystone home was first reported to authorities at 8.24am on September 19.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the house was fully engulfed when crews arrived and the house could not be saved.
Locals and nearby shop staff helped out before fire crews could get to the scene.
Roleystone Settlements owner Shelley Hickinbotham said she saw someone help the occupant out of the burning property.
“They placed her and her dog on the block of land next to the house and then proceeded to take some items from the garage out of the way of the fire,” she said.
“Bystanders were asking them to move away from the home when all of a sudden loud explosions from inside the house could be heard.
“The fire took hold very quickly with huge plumes of smoke rising into the air and large flames spreading very quickly.”
St John Ambulance officers treated one person at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
