The Centrals celebrate their win against South Mandurah.

The Mundijong Centrals Football club started its season with an epic win against South Mandurah on April 1.

The Centrals claimed victory with the score reading 15.12 (102) to 8.15 (63) in round one of the season.

It was a historic win for the team as it was the first time a game was held under the lights at Mundijong Oval.

Centrals president Bert Easthope said the first ever game of football at the oval was a big success.

“The crowd was one of the biggest ever seen at the ground,” he said.

“We were buoyed by the presence of the complete 2007 Centrals League Premiership side who added plenty of colour to the night.”

Mr Easthope said the league game between the Centrals and South Mandurah was a very high standard game with the first half being a tight contention with little in it at halftime.

“However Centrals got on top in the third quarter,” he said.

“They went on to win the game.”

Mr Easthope said the Centrals win was the result of a team based effort and has allowed the season to start on the right note.

“Despite solid performances in the colts and reserves teams they were not able to register wins,” he said.

“The night concluded with a very social evening at the club and it gave all the past and present players and officials and supporters the opportunity to catch up and to relive some of the special moments at the club.”

Centrals Football Club’s next game will be on April 22 at Mundijong Oval.
