It has been two years since 24-year-old Seville Grove woman Simone Weller and her cousin were hit by a Suzuki Swift on Abernethy Road.
Karl Peter Simanu who was driving the Swift at a speed of 128km/h in a 60-kilometre zone was charged with dangerous driving and grievous bodily harm and on November 23 was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the WA District Court.
Ms Weller said she was relieved to hear the news about the charges.
“For me it is finally over,” she said.
“For so long it has haunted me and now I can put it to rest.”
Ms Weller said she had stopped at the intersection and looked for other cars before deciding it was safe to turn right.
As she attempted to turn she was hit by the Suzuki Swift and together with her cousin spent more than a week in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Ms Weller said she suffered injuries to her leg, which required surgery and months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
“I have a metal piece put in,” she said.
“While it limits my movement I’m so thankful to be here and everyone has been very supportive.”
